You can purchase money orders from any office of Ohio Valley Community Credit Union.  A small fee of  $.75 is charged for each money order.  Money orders are a good way to pay for goods and services that require payment by check and will not accept personal checks.  Money orders are generally considered as cash payments. You will only be permitted to purchase money orders with collected funds or cash payments.  You cannot purchase a money order with a personal check.   In the past couple of years many scams and fraudulent schemes have become prominent with the use of money orders.  If you are cashing a money order or depositing a money order into your account and your financial institution informs you that a hold must be placed on the item, you should not be surprised due to the fraudulent schemes that have surfaced lately.  It is a safe and secure way for the financial institution to be sure that the funds are collected and that your account is protected.  Many times the financial institution will try to make a call to check on the validity of the money order.  Please be patient and rest assured that the CU is only trying to protect you from scams. 

 

If you purchase a money order from OVCCU and send it to someone in the mail and they do not get it, you must wait at least 10 business days after you mailed it to call us to place a stop on the item.  You will need to come to one of the offices and sign for this stop to be valid.  The CU will check to see that the money order has not cleared the account before a stop is placed on the item.  If you have any questions regarding money orders and their uses, please contact any CU office.
