Beware of fraud. Do not give your account number out to anyone, especially over the phone. The credit union does not make calls to you at home requesting any information regarding, account numbers, social security numbers, visa account numbers, etc. We are already aware of these things about you so calls are not made requesting them. If we call you we will clearly identify ourselves. Please be aware of calls requesting information about you and or your accounts. It is a good practice not to give any information over the phone.
WHAT DOES A THIEF NEED TO STEAL YOUR IDENTITY
A Thief can steal your identity with information such as your social security number, driver's license, birth date, address and financial account numbers. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that as many as 9 million Americans are victims of identity theft every year. Here are some ways to protect yourself from becoming a victim.
Shred all documents that contain your personal information
Don't carry your social security card around with you. Your social security number is the most important number a thief needs to create new accounts in your name, so keep it somewhere safe.
Stop throwing away your receipts at the gas station or ATM
Protect your mailbox. Get your mail as soon as possible or get a locked mailbox. This prevents mail thieves from accessing your mail and financial documents.
Don't respond to emails that are asking for personal or financial account information. While it may look official, it is probably a scam.
REMEMBER -- IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS!! DON'T GET CAUGHT UP IN MAIL AND CHECK FRAUD SCAMS. NO ONE JUST GIVES YOU MONEY WITHOUT IT COSTING YOU. PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR CHECK SCAMS THAT ASK YOU TO CASH THE CHECK AND RETURN BACK TO THEM A CERTAIN AMOUNT. DO NOT EVER GIVE OUT YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBERS OR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS TO ANY PERSON OR BUSINESS YOU ARE NOT TOTALLY FAMILIAR WITH.
